New Release: GSC 60’ Flatcar in 8 schemes!

Tangent Scale Models is pleased to announce the availability today of our latest run of General Steel Castings (GSC) 60’0” Flatcars in HO scale. A car of tremendous versatility, these cars served nationwide in service on many railroads starting in 1964, and thanks to the sturdy cast steel frame construction of these cars these cars served in a multitude of services including lumber, wallboard, poles, and heavy equipment services, to name a few. GSC, located in Granite City IL, supplied either complete cars or cast steel flatcar bodies to various railroads. Railroads that elected to purchase only the bodies would then equip the cars with components preferred for projected service.

The Tangent Scale Models 60’ GSC flatcar is a distinctive finescale replica that includes highly accurate lettering, “true to life” colors, and narrow draft gear. The model includes Kadee® scale couplers and an intelligent weight design to ensure the model operates as good as it looks. Check them out now at www.tangentscalemodels.com in these EIGHT sharp RTR schemes:

Santa Fe (ATSF) “Original Brown 1956” replicates the delivery scheme on Santa Fe’s 100 car fleet of GSC 60’ Flatcars. These cars exhibit classic white roman lettering and an accurate FT-7 class. We first ran ATSF in 2012, and we are pleased to offer 4 all new car numbers for 2018.

Northern Pacific (NP) “Original Black 1962” is an all new paint scheme for the Tangent GSC flatcar. Built at the NP’s Laurel Shops and painted black, the distinctive white NP-style lettering stands out on this car. Check out the little details like A and B notation on the ends of the car. This car is available in three numbers.

Burlington Northern (BN) “Crooked Lettering 1989” is an interesting take on an ex-NP car that has been repainted in the BN’s late 80s ultra-simplified paint. You may notice the model has slightly crooked reporting marks and CAPY data on the one side. Yes, it is correct, and we even show the photo on our website! Era-correct COTS finish off the scheme. This car is available in one prototypical and accurate number.

Missouri Pacific (MP) “MOW Post-2005 Eagle” illustrates the long life of MP paint in a post-UP merger world. The Sedalia shops MP brown paint has been patched by UP and pressed into MOW service. Post 2005 yellow delineators move the car along into today’s era. There are a lot of little details on this car – multiple brown patches, MP number style changes, and MOW markings. This car is available in three numbers.

Missouri Pacific (MP) “MOW Pre-2005” brings back the popular UP MOW Green cars to the Tangent Line. These ex-MP brown cars have been painted into the Union Pacific’s distinctive Maintenance-Of-Way green scheme. Why pre-2005? Simple: No yellow Delineators means this is perfect for the late 1980s through the mid 2000s and beyond. This car is available in four new numbers for 2018!

Missouri Pacific (MP) “MOW Post-2005” is another nod to the modelers of “today.” These UP MOW green cars feature the reflective yellow delineators applied to freight cars after 2005. Take a close look at the oxide primer patches applied first, and then the yellow reflective decals. This scheme is available in four new numbers for 2018!

Wabash (WAB) “Original Brown 1956” marks the return of another often-requested paint scheme. Wabash fans, we are listening! Classic Wabash stenciling on a brown flatcar, this 200 car fleet served through the Wabash, N&W and into the NS. This car is available in four new numbers for 2018!

Norfolk & Western (NW) “1971 Stacked Lettering” is another all-new scheme for this Tangent flatcar. This car is an ex-Wabash flat that has been repainted into N&W black. As with many of the flatcar schemes, space is at a premium: N&W Decatur Il shops squeezed in stacked “Norfolk And Western” lettering vertically and applied the ACI Label on a separate steel plate. This car is available in two numbers.
